Sunset Music Festival Police Report

According to Tampa Bay News, the second day of the Sunset Music Festival at Raymond James Stadium reported less medical emergencies than the first. Around 32 attendees were taken from the festival to a local hospital on Saturday and 17 had to be transported to an emergency medical facility Sunday. Tampa Fire Rescue spokesperson, Jason Penny, said no one was in critical condition either day.

St. Joseph’s Hospital treated a total of 27 people over the two days. They were all for drug or alcohol intoxication, however, none of them had to be admitted overnight. The 49 people transported to a hospital over both days is 8 less than last year. During last year’s festival, two people died from abusing ecstasy, alongside complications with the combination of heat, drugs, and alcohol which sent 57 others to the hospital. Tampa Mayor, Bob Buckhorn, spoke out against the city hosting the festival again this year. However, Tampa Sports Authority, which operates Raymond James Stadium, agreed to allow promoters to hold it in a parking area north of the stadium.

Promoters provided more shaded areas and free water this year, along with a heavier police and emergency medical presence. On Sunday night, Fire Rescue’s Penny said that “due to this mitigation, (the festival has) seen marked improvement over the last year.” The police officers certainly stayed occupied this weekend with thirty felony arrests (10 on Saturday and 20 on Sunday), 16 misdemeanor arrests (11 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday), 47 ejections (32 on Saturday and 15 on Sunday), and 5 marijuana civil citations (all on Saturday). Most of the felony arrests were for possession of molly (MDMA). The 46 total arrests are up from 33 last year. Festival promoters attributed that to a “zero-tolerance policy.”

A 20-Year-Old Woman Has Died After Attending Lightning in a Bottle

Baylee Gatlin

Lightning in a Bottle is, no doubt, a favorite festival among many of our team members at EDMTunes – so needless to say, it always pains us when we must announce sad news as such. 20-year-old Baylee Gatlin passed away early this past Sunday morning after attending the festival at Lake San Antonio in Bradley, CA.

Though the cause of her death is unknown, another death at a festival is never good news, as it is all too common across the scene today. Gatlin was evacuated from the event after suffering a medical emergency and pronounced dead at Twin Cities Hospital, located about 35 miles from the lake. An autopsy is planned for Wednesday, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

The Lightning in a Bottle organizers put out the following statement around the death:

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the woman who passed away at Twin Cities Hospital after attending Lightning in a Bottle this weekend. We ask that the LiB community keep her and her family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Baylee Gatlin

Our best wishes go out to the Gatlin family and friends.

Kayzo – Whistle Wars

Kayzo - Whistle Wars

Kayzo – Whistle Wars

Fans of Kayzo have been waiting for this day for nearly a year. That’s because today he finally dropped his track ‘Whistle Wars‘ on Welcome Records. If you’ve been to any of his shows or seen any other bass artists in that time frame, chances are you’ve already heard this track as an ID.

The track is dominated by that signature hard-hitting bass sound that we’ve come to expect from Kayzo. Yet at the same time this track is far more than just heavy drops. The intro and especially the bridge feature twinkling piano riffs and melodic synths that provide contrast and showcase his diversity and maturity as a producer. Even if you’ve already heard this live half a dozen times, it’s still worth another listen in its entirety.

RL Grime Reveals Next Album, ‘Nova’

A Reddit user named Anitsirk posted what appears to be printed out sheets with an unfinished tracklist, a blurb from RL Grime himself, and the word, ‘Nova’ in big letters across the top. The tracklist attached features 11 songs with nearly half not having names.

The previously released tracks, ‘Reims and ‘Aurora, will presumably be on the album and one of RL Grime’s previously released tracks, ‘Because of U’ is also listed. The other 8 songs are a mystery, however they could potentially be some of these tracks that another redditor named TheSHACKALACK compiled.

The copy written by RL Grime speaks about how Nova is more of a project and a journey, rather than just an album. He concludes his message by saying, “Nova will always, always, start with the fans. To those who have been with me since the beginning; thank you. I can’t wait to see where this journey leads.”

There is no official release date for the trap producers sophomore album, ‘Nova,’ however a new track is expected to premiere on Triple J next week. Stay tuned for updates on RL Grime’s new album and check out the images featuring the message and tentative tracklist below:

deadmau5 Encounters Technical Difficulties During Testpilot Set

As a part of the Detroit Techno Week celebration this Memorial Day Weekend, some of the biggest techno acts from around the world got together to headline Movement Detroit 2017. One of the most anticipated performances of the weekend belongs to the debut of deadmau5′ alias Testpilot. The Testpilot performance definitely lived up to the hype, but unfortunately, it did not come without a few complications such as rain delay and lighting spotting which led to long pauses throughout his set. Joel then proceed to do the most “deadmau5” thing possible by getting on the mic to crack a few jokes and talk some trash about the industry. Zimmerman has since promised his fans that he will re-record the set and air it on his next BBC Radio 1 residency show so that they can enjoy the set in full.

Damn. Thanks everyone for hanging in there with me during that disaster. I thought I was going to get crucified for sure. I’ll make it up 😉

Trey Songz – Nobody Else But You (Mozado Remix)

Following his recent flip of Beyonce’s “Naughty Girl” in March, producer Mozado has just returned with his newest remix, this time in the form of a smooth and sensual twist on Trey Songz‘ “Nobody Else But You.” Featuring crisp vocals, acoustic elements and an instantly catchy melody, the track explores the full potential of the original’s arrangement.

It begins with Trey Songz’ distant voice behind clean guitar strums before a simple, cutting percussion section takes over the pacing. A brief swell of noise brings us toward the chorus, where high-pitched vocal chops are thrown around the space above a warm sub bass and sultry chords.

Your EDM Premiere: LZ7 – Give My All

If you haven’t heard of LZ7, don’t worry, you’re not out of touch. Google describes them as a primarily Christian hip hop and dance group based out of the UK, so they occupy a distinct niche (a rather large one, at that, but a niche nonetheless). So when I was sent their new song “Give My All” and realized it was drum & bass, I hopped on it like an overeager chihuahua seeing a poodle in heat.

By all means, “Give My All” can be described as anthemic. Starting off with huge female vocals, and an instantly catchy melodic hook gives it a nostalgic and forward-facing vibe at the same time, feeling like you’ve heard this song for years and never before. As far as songwriting, the song is essentially perfect. From the hip hop verses to the massive chorus to the addictive bassline, everything is polished to an insane degree.

Pre-order is available for both “Give My All” and “Golden” now, with the release set to go live on Friday, June 2.

Location, Date, Lineup Announced For Ariana Grande’s Manchester Benefit Concert

Following the Manchester terrorist attack last week at an Ariana Grande concert, the pop singer promised fans that she would give back to the families of those who lost someone or had a family member who was injured in the attack. Grande promised to organize a benefit concert to raise money for victims.

“One Love Manchester” will take place on June 4 at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. Coldplay, Katy Perry, Pharrell, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Niall Horan and Take That will also take the stage.

This format bears resemblance to the WELCOME! concert that Zedd organized in Los Angeles in order to bring awareness to and raise money for those affected by the travel ban enacted by President Trump. The obvious difference in this case is the scope of those affected.

According to a press release, all proceeds from the show will go towards the “We Love Manchester Emergency Fund,” in partnership with the British Red Cross and Manchester City Council.

Loopers & Goja Take Us “Back To The Future” With New Single

I’ve already expressed my love for Goja enough times on Your EDM, but when put together with Loopers, expect a completely unstoppable duo. When the Dutch producer and Italian duo get in the studio together, you get incredible pieces like this “Back To The Future.”

It’s safe to say I’ve never really heard a tune like this before. Yeah, it’s electro house at its roots, but it’s so, so much more than that. The vocal chops are reminiscent of some Indian sensibilities, without being as direct as a song by KSHMR, for instance. At the same time, the drop is a wild mixture of distorted synths and pounding percussion; bringing the ethnic vocal chops back in as well gives it an even more layered flavor.

Expect equal parts headbanging and shuffling when this comes on at the function. Check out “Back To The Future” below.
