Snails – SLUGZ (VIP Mix)

Canadian producer Snails boasts one of the most unique sounds in the industry, and has always been a proponent of continuing to develop his distinctive sound rather than following the trends. Today, he decided to unleash an absolutely wonky VIP edit of his 2014 song “Slugz.”

His updated version is filled with the very recognizable wobbly bass production that can only be found in a Snails song. Compared to the original, the VIP turns the volume up just a little higher, and will make the speakers vibrate whether just being listened to on home speakers or blasting over massive festival stages. Snails has a huge summer of tour dates ahead of him, including both weekends of Tomorrowland in Belgium, Baltimore’s Moonrise Festival, New York’s Electric Zoo, Excision’s Lost Lands Festival and of course his own festival Sluggtopia at Red Rocks with support from NGHTMRE & Joyryde. Equipped with his latest VIP edit, Snails is ready to rock stages all over the world for the next few months. If you have the opportunity to see him, it’ll be well worth it. You can check out his SLUGZ VIP on Soundcloud below, and make sure you turn the speakers up.

Dillon Francis Sparks Rumors of New Music in Dominican Republic

dillon francisSince his first full length studio album “Money Sucks, Friends Rule“, Dillon Francis has shown that when it comes to the music he makes, we should expect the unexpected.

Dillon’s discography shows he can make a hit in just about any genre he sets his mind to. This is proven with collaborations between a large list of Dance music’s biggest names, such as Skrillex, Diplo, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix, Alesso, DJ Snake, Kygo, KSHMR, NGHTMRE and many more. As if that wasn’t enough, he also shows off his versatility with non-EDM artists like The Chain Gang of 1974, TwistaWill HeardBrendon Urie (better known as the singer for Panic! At The Disco), and more. From his latest social media postings, it seems that he’s setting his sights to collaborate more outside of EDM.

On Snapchat, Dillon showed that he was in the Dominican Republic inside a studio with the likes of Arcangel, El Mayor Clasico, as well as QuimicoUltraMega, three of Latin America’s biggest artists known for their mixture of hip-hop, reggaeton, and rap. We know that a second full studio album is coming from Dillon, according to a triple j interview from a few months ago. From that same interview, Dillon was quoted saying he wanted to “work more with Latin artists and do stuff that’s very Spanglish & Moombathon style”.

It’s still unconfirmed whether or not they all have finished up new music or if they’re just getting started, and whether or not this studio time is for Dillon’s upcoming album, or if he’s working as their producer laying down the heat for some of their new songs. Regardless, it’s exciting to consider a possible collaboration in the works.

Between snaps of his buddy Gerald and close-ups of his ever-changing facial hair decisions, Dillon has been teasing us with unreleased music he’s played out at his EDC Las Vegas and Electric Forest sets, both of which have been deemed in high praise from his fans. Only time and Snapchat shenanigans will tell what’s forthcoming from Mr. Francis.

In the meantime, make sure to check out those live sets below.

Skrillex Teases New Dog Blood Material

It’s looking more and more like Dog Blood is back. You’ve gotta admit, things have been really quiet on the Skrillex front. Sure we got “Chicken Soup” with Habstrakt and some other tracks here and there, but since Jack U went on hiatus we haven’t gotten much new material to work with. We have gotten plenty of Skrillex studio teases, but this one feels a little more official.

The duo’s official Instagram account posted a nice little teaser today, indicating that Skrillex and Boize Noize were working on new Dog Blood music. With Jack U on the ropes, might we see a return from Dog Blood? It’s sure looking that way, although we would love some Skrillex solo material too.

Storm Dampens Mood for Electric Forest’s Second Weekend of Festivities

electric forestEarly arrivers to Electric Forest this week were stuck in their cars on Wednesday awaiting campground entrances to reopen.

Festivalgoers began arriving in Rothbury on Wednesday and thunderstorms followed close behind that evening. Holders of early arrival passes for the first-ever second weekend of Electric Forest were greeted with a thunderstorm and lightning. Entry to the campsite was delayed as organizers announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon that campground entrances were temporarily closed due to the weather conditions.

The announcement on Twitter advised everyone to take a break from driving to campsites or to explore dining options in Michigan as they waited for weather conditions to clear up and festival operations to resume.

While some were stuck waiting for the lines to start running again, others who attended the welcome party at Gold Rush Waterpark were unsure when they could return to their campsite.

Updates were sent out through the Electric Forest app and after a night of uncertainty, organizers finally announced that campground entrances would reopen at noon on Thursday. Opening of venue gates was also delayed till 5p.m.

The weather had already put a slight damper on weekend one of the festival as campgrounds were muddy from the rain and gates opened slightly later than scheduled. Rain is also forecasted for this weekend and similar camping conditions can be expected.

Met with a gloomy start to the weekend of festivities, Electric Forest is making it up to attendees by offering a refund to everyone who purchased a weekend two early arrival pass.

Calvin Harris Drops Summery Nicki Minaj Collab “Skrt On Me” A Day Early [LISTEN]

Calvin Harris has pleasantly surprised us by dropping his Nicki Minaj collaboration earlier than expected, just a day before his Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 album is scheduled to release!

“Skrt On Me” is a breezy summer song that packs in the heat, building on the tropical vibes and hot, superstar collaborations that Funk Wav Bounces is all about!

Nicki lays it down: “If you ride, baby, ride up / Pull up from behind, baby, wine up / You and me, we can shine up / So baby, come make your mind up” — listen and enjoy!

Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean – Feels

Calvin also recently teamed up with Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry and Big Sean for “Feels,” another song off his new record. It was originally rumored to be a diss track about ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift, but it’s proven to simply be another hit summer anthem, complimenting the good vibes on display in “Skrt On Me.”

Although the producer isn’t exactly best friends Swift, he recently cleared the air about their Twitter beef in a revealing interview with British GQ: “I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me and that was when I snapped.”

“It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself.”

“Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realise that none of that matters. I’m a positive guy.”

Well, his positivity is certainly coming through in his new music… We can’t wait to vibe to the entire Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 tonight at midnight!

Hardwell Goes Hard With New Hardstyle Record “MAKE THE WORLD OURS”

Last week, the world’s premiere hardstyle festival Defqon.1 took place as its original location of The Netherlands. Among the many acts that performed was Dutch legend Hardwell who premiered a new hardstyle record for the frenzied crowd in attendance, and honestly. He couldn’t have picked a better place to do so.

“Make The World Ours” debuted amongst a flurry of green lasers to great effect. The record features crazy aggressive drums and a banging bassline before it suddenly switches to a slower anthemic pace as we’re graced with trance-like spoken word vocals from an unknown female voice. The visuals also switch up dramatically for this female interlude with dozens of bright lights shining around the huge crowd like a lighthouse.

Jauz Takes On Remix Duty For Slushii & Marshmello’s Saccharine Single “Twinbow”

It’s no secret that Red Light Management artists love to work together. Between Jauz, Marshmello, Slushii, Ghastly, Ookay and more, they have a pretty solid roster of viral artists who have the ability to produce incredibly popular songs, and are IRL friends on top of everything else.

When I first reviewed “Twinbow,” I gave it an honest and thought-out criticism. I find it incredibly interesting and abundantly satisfying that my least-favorite part of the original was the most-remixed part in Jauz’s interpretation. Better yet, Jauz takes a huge risk and remixes it with a 2011-era YouTube dubstep wobble that just plain works. It’s the kind of lo-fi wobble you’d hear on a dubstep remix of Eminem’s “Till I Collapse,” mixed with a sort of 2013-era Skrillex bass.

I’d never really think that sort of sound would mesh with the super sweet original “Twinbow,” but gosh darn, Jauz makes it work. Check out the remix below:

Major Lazer x DJ Snake “Lean On” Becomes 4th Track Ever To Hit 1 Billion Plays on Spotify

Major Lazer and DJ Snake‘s “Lean On” is being recognized as one of the most played tracks in EDM, ever… The exotic dance anthem just became the 4th song to hit 1 billion plays on Spotify, and it’s still racking ’em up (at 1,001,243,565 and counting)!

The single, hailing from Major Lazer’s third studio album Peace is the Mission, completely took over 2015 and much of 2016, quickly becoming an instant classic, and working its way into mainstream play. Not only did the track put pop singer  on the map, it launched Major Lazer and DJ Snake both from electronic producer status to superstar hit-making sensations!

Major Lazer marked the moment with a simple tweet reading: “1,000,000,000.”

While “Lean On” was certainly on pace to be the first member of the music streaming service’s “Billion Play Club,” recent releases like Drake – “One Dance,” The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey – “Closer,” and Ed Sheeran – “Shape of You” gained even more steam early on and hit the mark sooner. Nevertheless, “Lean On” has reached massive worldwide success and also became one of the few tracks to hit 2 billion plays on Youtube.

The song, the lyrics, and the undeniable good vibes play out every bit as well as when it was first released! Play it again!
