Dreamstate SoCal AKA Trancegiving Targeted By Pickpocketers

Trancegiving was in full effect over the weekend at Dreamstate SoCal 2018, but it wasn’t all trance and rainbows. Unfortunately, pickpocketers were allegedly out and about and targeting ravers left and right.

Redditors warned of rampant pickpocketing during the event (see here), but this gang of phone and wallet thieves weren’t about to let up. Tons more firsthand accounts surfaced on Facebook groups throughout the weekend, such as Dreamstate (Unofficial). One of which that describes the following incident…

I got punched in the face last night at Gareth Emery. MANY of my friends had phones and wallets stolen. I felt a guy purposely grab at my pocket looking to steal it around 10 pm. I confronted him, of course he denied and immediately shows how he only has one phone and wallet on him (why would anyone immediately show that they are “innocent” and so willingly if they weren’t up to no good). These guys are professional criminals. They steal the phones then pass them off to their mule who is nearby and carries them. A group of my friends followed to find who he was working with while simultaneously getting security. He got away. But later in the night the exact same guy, in a newly purchased gray Dreamstate hoodie, was walking through our group so we followed him again. He got called out by a friend and we very quickly discovered another guy with them who had multiple phones in his cargo pants. Then one by one many others in the same gray dreamstate hoodies started showing up (all assumed to be apart of their gang). So they started to fight us for calling them out as we tried to contain them and get security. I got punched in the face during the commotion.

Here’s another account via Reddit…

Dreamstate 2018 Stolen Phones – I hadn’t seen a post about this yet which kind of surprised me. This year at Dreamstate my boyfriend had his phone stolen. In our group of friends, I know of 5 stolen phones. If you looked at the stages you would see empty cases everywhere on the ground from where they had stolen the phone and dumped the case on the ground. At Garth Emery I was told there was a physical fight where someone had caught someone stealing a phone. Just posting here to see if anyone had more insight into what happened this weekend? Or if Insomanic has said something formally about this. Lowball guess I would say at least 300 phones were stolen this weekend. Someone guessed around a 1000 phones stolen. This just makes me so sad. Dreamstate is a place of feeling safe and doing what we love. Sigh.

It’s beyond disappointing that these intruders came into a space that’s meant to be safe and violated it such a way. Still, the Trancegiving family kept their heads up and overall it sounds like the event was a great time. Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, Vini Vici, John O’Callaghan and more performed over the weekend.

Moving forward, let’s continue looking out for each other. When attending events, make sure your personal items are secured. Avoid putting your phone or wallet in your back pocket at all costs.

Ultra Australia Reveals Phase 1 Headliners For 2019

Ultra Australia just unleashed its Phase 1 for 2019, but instead of just giving it to us straight, there’s a whole teaser video to go with it! Ultra vibes immediately take over as city streets and buildings transform to shining lights and stages. It’s almost festival season again.

Cutting to the chase though, Adam Beyer, The Chainsmokers, Marshmello, and Martin Garix are Ultra Australia’s leading headliners for the continent’s debut event. (Note: Australia has previously hosted a ‘Road To Ultra’ event.) Although the initial announcement runs just four artists deep, organizers couldn’t have picked bigger names in the game than these ones. As with any Ultra event, we can expect the rest of the lineup to be just as stellar.

Ultra Australia is set to take place over February 23 and 24 in 2019, with the first night in Melbourne and the second night in Sydney. Don’t wait — tickets are on sale now via ultraaustralia.com.

The poster also promises Phase 2 coming soon! Keep a look out!

Deadbeats Announces Compilation Vol. 3 With Lead Single From Gentlemens Club

Deadbeats changed the game by releasing two compilation albums in 2017, but 2018 has been starkly quiet on that front… until now. We Are Deadbeats Vol 3 is officially on its way, out this Friday, November 30. Featuring tracks by Holly, Ducky, um.., Rome In Silver, and the debut original from Aussie phenom SIPPYVol 3 is set to be one of the most experimental and bass-heavy yet.

The announcement is made along with the lead single from the compilation, “Keep It Simple” from Gentlemens Club. The single is also the first track on the compilation, so there’s a sense of symmetry here, as well. Among the shimmering synths in the intro and the almost hopeful tone, there lies a dark secret. Without much warning, the drop hits you like a ton of bricks, and you’re suddenly thrust into a bass-filled basement full of breaks and discordant sounds.

If “Keep It Simple” is any indication as to what the rest of the compilation has in store (and we can tell you that it is), then you’re going to want to pre-save We Are Deadbeats Vol 3 right now – do it here. Check out the full tracklist below!

We Are Deadbeats Vol 3

1. Gentlemens Club – Keep It Simple
2. um.. – Oatmeal
3. Ducky – Leave
4. Blunts & Blondes – Smooth Skanka
5. Jaenga – Gold Rings ft. Camera Shy
6. Holly – MISSU
7. Sippy – Lithos
8. SoDown x Mr. Bill – Eskimo
9. Klutch – Hallucinations
10. Mersiv – Mind Sounds
11. Cozway x Bonnema – Radicals
12. Rome In Silver – Glass

Your EDM Premiere: AFK x Carbin – Boss (A Boy & A Girl Remix)

AFK & Carbin’s “Boss” is undoubtedly one of the biggest bass tracks of the past twelve months, in large part due to the vocal sample that everyone knows by now: “I’mma die a boss and boy you betta believe that!” If you don’t know it, you probably haven’t been to any bass show in the past year.

At the same time, an interesting trend has been popping up among the bass community. DJs across the board have been throwing lots of psytrance into their sets. It’s hard to trace the origins of the trend in bass music, though an argument can definitely be made for Kayzo, but it’s definitely injected some variety into the genre.

To that effect, A Boy & A Girl have made a crazy and unexpected psytrance remix for “Boss” that has been gaining some major DJ support. It’s not hard to see why, either. Between the recognizable vocal sample and the new spin on a familiar track, fans are sure to go crazy when this drops. Elements of bass still pervade the track while the tempo is kept up and up and up, so it won’t alienate any hardcore fans that much.

This remix is out today! Check it out below.

DJane Mag Finally Reveals Top 200 List For 2018

The DJ Mag Top 100 is announced every year in October in time with Amsterdam Dance Event and features many of the top performers in the world. Often, issue is taken with the list for the lack of women included (even though the list is completely fan voted & submitted). In response to this, years ago, DJane Mag became a thing in order to highlight specifically the women making a splash in the world of electronic dance music.

The results of this year’s DJane Top 100 have just been revealed, uncovering a new cast of names to pay attention to. The top 10 is mostly recognizable names for US listeners: NERVO, Alison Wonderland, Nina Kraviz, Krewella, Rezz, Miss K8, Amelie Lends, Deborah De Luca, and Charlotte De Witte.

From there, whether or not you know a name is mostly a coin flip. There are still plenty of recognizable names after the top 10, like Mija, TOKiMONSTA, Tigerlily, Cray, CloZee, Kittens, Peggy Gou, and so forth. But there are other names that also aren’t so familiar: ONYVAA, Rebekah, Celina Manuhutu, Maeva Carter, Brooke Evers, Blue Ivy, and more.

What this highlights, in a roundabout way, is that women in dance music are perhaps underrepresented in the US, and are a much more global group than most people realize. This fact is emphasized even more by the 101-200 list of DJs, which are even more generally unrecognizable .

Regardless, if you’re looking for a little more woman power in your playlists, check out these 200 women below!

EDC Guangdong Warns DJs: Do Not Swear On The Mic

EDC China took place over the weekend in Guangdong with a totally stacked lineup. What everyone is buzzing about, though, is a warning that organizers allegedly passed out in the green rooms.

“BEWARE,” the notice reads. “No swearing or bad language on the microphone during your performance today, or you risk being detained by the local police. You have been warned!”

If this is true, which it looks to be (see below), then artists including Zedd, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Infected Mushroom, Joyryde, Kayzo, Lost Frequencies, 12th Planet, Kill the Noise, Tiësto, Steve Angello and more all ran the risk of being arrested. That is, if they used naughty language on the mic.

Let’s be real — it’s not uncommon for an EDM track to drop an F-bomb, let alone a DJ taking to the mic to express their sheer excitement. If Alison Wonderland were on the lineup, for example, we all know she starts up almost every set with a welcoming, “What the fuck is up?!”

It seems everyone was on their best behavior during EDC Guangdong, because we haven’t heard of any incidents to come of this. Do you think it’s OK for festivals to put the crack down on swearing? Read more on the discussion here via Reddit.

This Rail Rider Seriously Lost His Finger During A Snails Show

One man was going so hard at a Snails show over the weekend that he actually lost his finger. Well, a good chunk of it.

The DJ/producer reached out on Twitter last night after he found out about the severe mishap. He wrote: “OMG… i heard the saddest new that one of my fellow headbanger apparently lost a finger at my show yesterday… it got stuck between 2 rail apparently.. im trying to find back that person if anybody hear anything. Please be safe guys.”

It wasn’t too long before @christi16476584 came forward as the guy with the injury. He also declared he prefers to be called NVBBS, for obvious reasons. At least he kept good spirits about the whole ordeal.

The internet answered back, “Pics or it didn’t happen.”

We’ve all heard horror stories like this before, but it always turns out to be a rumor. However, this actually happened and the proof is below.

Should this guy get guest listed for life or what?

Your EDM Video Premiere: BIJOU – Super Phat Ft. Ushiqute

Though I can’t say I’ve ever experienced it personally, I’m sure there are few feelings better than absolutely balling out and throwing around stacks of cash, partying and having a grand ol’ time. There’s a certain degree of hedonism to the experience that just seems appealing. BIJOU’s new music video for “Super Phat” with Ushiqute brings that fantasy to life in an exciting and catchy fashion.

The video begins with BIJOU waking up and turning on the TV to a video interview of Ushiqute counting a stack of $100 bills before BIJOU passes out again and enters a dream state. The rest of the video is lavish parties, fast cars, stylish clothes, and Ushiqute’s infectious attitude.

To my surprise, this is actually BIJOU’s very first music video.

“This was my first music video so that in itself made it great, but having Kaleena (Ushiqute) in this one made it special,” says BIJOU. “We really wanted to incorporate that old school hip hop music video vibe as that was the golden era of music videos. Cars, money, girls, parties, plus more was what made them so fun, So we took that concept and put our own twist on it while staying true to the old school. I couldn’t be more excited to finally drop this, and a big shoutout to everyone involved who made it possible!”
