Covex – In Between feat. Gioto

A new year means new beginnings and new music, and Covex is starting the year off right with his first single “In Between” featuring Gioto.

As someone who puts great importance on headbanging in daily life, sometimes it’s necessary to give my neck a break and just let my emotions out. “In Between” is a soft and sweet song full of lush melodies and beautiful synths, the perfect remedy for some sore muscles.

Musically, “In Between” isn’t about flexing sound design or creating the most complex polyrhythms — at its base, it’s really just about enjoying the journey and embracing the unknown. Check out “In Between” from Covex featuring Gioto below.

Kayzo Drops Debut Single From Forthcoming Album, “Alone” with Our Last Night

Kayzo dropped his debut album OVERLOAD last year, but it seems that was just practice for something even bigger. After the album released, he quickly followed it up with a number of singles, including crossover hits with xo sad and Underoath. Now, Kayzo is ready to reveal his next album with the debut single, “Alone.”

For this new track, Kayzo teams up with American post-hardcore band Our Last Night. Stylistically, it matches the tone of both “FAKE FAKE FAKE” and “WASTED SPACE,” bridging punk and alternative sounds with electronic embellishments, creating something wholly his own.

Add Kayzo to the list of albums to look forward to in 2019 — listen to “Alone” below.

CID Talks Grammy Nomination & Remixing LSD’s “Audio” [INTERVIEW]

CID is up for a Grammy Award this year, which is the ultimate kind of recognition in the music industry. The work he did for LSD (Labrinth, Sia & Diplo) in the form of his “Audio” remix truly showcases dance music at its finest.

Speaking with CID about the remix project, he feels “fortunate” to have been able to rework “Audio.” It’s easy to hear — the track he prepared is dance floor ready and perfect for everyday listening, two huge factors he considers when remixing any track.

Here’s what he had to say about the Grammy nod and his work on the remix…

On first hearing “Audio” by LSD…

First of all the project I think is amazing. Sia is an incredible singer. Labrinth is — they’re both incredible songwriters. Labrinth is also a crazy producer. Then, you throw Diplo in there and it’s the ultimate artist project. Right away, even before I got the nomination I would have loved to do a remix.

On remixing LSD…

It was so easy to work with their vocals. You could put anything behind Sia’s vocal and it will sound amazing! [laughs] It wasn’t too difficult to get the idea. I love what they did on the original. For me, it was about taking the essence of what they had done and putting my spin on it.

On the most challenging part of the remix…

The tempo. For this one, I did something that I’ve never really done before. The original song is pretty slow. The first version I did — I did the whole thing at 124 bpm. I think Diplo heard the first demo I sent. He said, “Slow the whole thing down. The verse is too fast.” So, you can’t really notice it, but I’m changing the tempo. The verses are maybe 118 and when it gets to the pre-chorus then the chorus it starts speeding up really slowly, and the drop is around 124. That was challenging, trying to speed up without anyone noticing. It probably threw off a lot of DJs. If any DJ played it and mixed over — there’d be a lot of train wrecking going on.

On his previous Grammy win in 2014…

I won a Grammy for my work on Cedric Gervais’ Lana Del Rey remix. I’d been working with Cedric for a couple of years at the time. He’s an incredible producer and I was super grateful to be a part of that remix. I don’t think any of us realized what it would turn into. It was incredible to see how big that song was able to get. It was very smart putting it through the club system. He did the whole Beatport thing and it did really well there. I think Interscope took a shot on it and pushed to radio and it took off. The Grammys was one of the most crazy experiences to be a part of. It kind of gave me an inside look at how things develop along the way. For me, being at the Grammys was one of those mental images — like, this is what it takes.

It’s great to be coming back and doing it on my own. Obviously, my name is on this one. I’m just nominated now — that alone is just crazy to me, to think back at how far I’ve come. It’s just awesome to be going back there.

On making a good remix…

I’ve kind of been doing two different styles. The one, I’m making it strictly for the dance floor. But, I think the ones that make great remixes are the ones that you can go on Spotify in your house or in your car and just listen to. But, at the same time, you could play them in the club. That’s the sweet spot! If you can make it listenable and effective in your set, I think those are the best remixes.

CID’s ultimate goal with this remix and everything he creates — “I want people to be happy.”

/r/electronicmusic Best of 2018 Revealed, Jon Hopkins Sweeps Major Categories

/r/electronicmusic has finally revealed its Best of 2018 Awards, as voted on by the community.

Last year was an amazing year for electronic music. While every music source seems to have their own opinion of the best of the best, there has certainly been some crossover with the results. For instance, see our list of top albums here.

According to /r/electronicmusic, Jon Hopkins is the artist of the year, followed by Koan Sound and then SOPHIE (all of whom dropped albums in 2018). Song of the year also goes to Jon Hopkins for his track “Emerald Rush,” followed by RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s “Underwater” and DJ Koze‘s “Pick Up.” Album of the year goes to — you guessed it — Jon Hopkins for Singularity, followed by Koan Sound’s Polychrome and G JonesThe Ineffable Truth.

While Jon Hopkins sweeps the major categories, there’s still much variety on the list. Rezz1788-L, Aphex Twin, Disclosure, Mat Zo, Odesza, Virtual Self, Rob Swire, RL Grime and more appear on the Best of 2018 Awards list.

Biggest Letdown is a category we haven’t seen much in these recaps. It’s no surprise that Datsik takes the cake. He’s followed by “no Madeon album in 2018” and “no Skrillex album in 2018” — both of those could change in 2019.

See the rest of the results below.

Marshmello Is Throwing A Virtual Show Inside Fortnite This Weekend

Fortnite is tapping into electronic music in a big way. This Saturday, Epic Games is set to throw an actual Marshmello show inside of the top-selling video game.

Forbes got its hands on the leaked information first, which details a new, in-game event called “Party at Pleasant Park.” According to the leak, the concert is set to take place this Saturday, February 2nd at 2PM ET, so clear your plans for the afternoon if you want to keep it Mello.

As Forbes reports, players will probably be able to see the lights and/or hear the music from anywhere on the map. At Pleasant Park, where the party takes place, respawns are enabled which means players will be able to kill each other during the party and come right back to continue enjoying the festivities.

New animations include a “DJ dancing,” so Marshmello will be getting his groove on. Object leaks show speakers, a full stage, lights and all the trimmings. This should look and feel like a real Marshmello show.

No doubt, “Party at Pleasant Park” is going to be quite a spectacle. With Marshmello being an avid Fortnite player himself, this is the perfect fit.

Skrillex & Utada Hikaru Enter The Billboard Hot 100 with “Face My Fears”

Skrillex completely wowed us with his stunning collaboration “Face My Fears” with Hikaru Utada. Not only is it an amazing song, it doubles as the opening theme for the brand new Kingdom Hearts III video game.

The track has seen wild, viral success online since its release and now it’s being recognized in the mainstream, as well. According to new chart data, Skrillex has broken into the Billboard Hot 100 with “Face My Fears.” The producer makes his mark at No. 98 on the chart — and just like that, he’s back in action!

— chart data (@chartdata) January 29, 2019

“It sounds kind of crazy, but I always said ‘I want to do the theme for Kingdom Hearts one day,’” Skrillex told The Verge. “I told myself that as a kid. I was just such an absolute fan of Utada Hikaru and the games, but that was like a dream of mine.”

Skrillex has taken a step away from the bass music that brought him notoriety, perfecting a new kind of sound that’s bright, uplifting, and amazing as ever. Fans are still holding out for a forthcoming album in 2019. The longer we go without any details, the more we seem to want it. And, the more we question what his new material is going to sound like.

Enjoy “Face My Fears” again and watch the track climb the charts!

GRAMMY Awards Winners Allegedly Leaked, Recording Academy Responds

The GRAMMY Awards winners is one of the most tightly held lists in the world. For all intents and purposes, no one but a select group of Recording Academy members knows the winners until the sealed envelopes are opened during the ceremony. Yet, tonight, it was apparently reported that the GRAMMYs leaked the winners on their own website, which is absolutely unheard of. See below:

The Grammy has leaked data on the winners of the 2019 award on January 20, 2019 on the official website. This is not a fake or a joke. Pay attention to this @billboard @PopCrave @PerezHilton @musicnewsfact @chartdata @gagamonster96 @billboardcharts RT #Grammy pic.twitter.com/01PfgFLMTO

Record of the year apparently goes to “I Like It” from Cardi B, Album of the year goes to H.E.R. by H.E.R…. etc., etc. However, the GRAMMYs have already responded to the supposed leak, saying with no uncertainty that there is “no legitimacy to this.”

“There is no legitimacy to this. GRAMMYs results are not shared, even with Recording Academy staff members, until the day of the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, when names of the recipients are delivered in sealed envelopes.”

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards airs Sun, Feb 10 at 5:00 PM PST, from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. While some of the alleged winners may be correct by pure chance, it is not an official leak, according to the Recording Academy.

Hardcore Till I Die: Video Of Police Officer Beating Suspect During Arrest Sparks Debate

Hardcore Till I Die music festival is making headlines for all the wrong reasons as a violent — and now viral — video clip from the event has surfaced of a dramatic arrest.

Footage shows a handful of officers holding down a man and one of them “booting” the “poor guy” while he’s down. The video has sparked much outrage on social media as potentially unwarranted police brutality. Of course, there’s much more to the story than this “harrowing” 30-second clip.

According to a report, Isoa Rabuatoka (18) allegedly punched a security guard in the face, spat on police officers, and threw a glass bottle at an 18-year-old girl. The bottle was apparently meant for a security guard, but it struck the attendee, leaving her with glass embedded in her face.

When police approached and confronted Rabuatoka about this series of incidents, he reportedly became violent. It’s also alleged by police that he had “an entire bottle of Jim Beam and MDMA in his system.”

Despite the reasoning, one police officer can clearly be seen viciously kneeing the suspect. Many people on social media are angered by the video and believe the police officer took this way too far.

“This makes me physically sick omg,” one comment reads.

“These dickheads [the police] need to be taught manners,” another says.

“The NSW Police Force, backed by the Lib government, has been given free reign to abuse their powers for far too long,” a share from anti-drug dog campaigners Sniff Off reads.

Watch below and sound off in the comments.
