HI-LO – The Answer (Oliver Heldens Edit)

HI-LO is a side project that Oliver Heldens formed to explore the darker, deeper side of house music. The HI-LO sound has become known for funky hi-hats, dark modulating bass-lines, and creative use of classic samples. What is unique about The HI-LO project is that it has left Oliver Heldens free to explore, remix, edit, and re-release the work that may have been designed for his other alias, and in turn put out some truly unique music.

Forthcoming on his own Heldeep records, HI-LO – The Answer (Oliver Heldens Edit) is releasing later this month, on March 20. The internet is already buzzing with anticipation for this new release. The Answer Features classic soulful vocals, a funky electric piano riff, and a punchy driven bass-line.

The Answer is a perfect marriage of old school influence, and new school energy. Once again Oliver Heldens pulls through with a quality track, that is sure to make waves once it is released!

Check out the preview here!

Travis Scott – Goosebumps (NGHTMRE Remix)

Travis Scott – Goosebumps (NGHTMRE Remix)

What can we say about NGHTMRE that hasn’t already been said? He has absolutely blew up last year…check. He is becoming one of the most recognizable names in trap music….yep, said that. We get excited every time he puts out a new track or remix…most definitely. Well he’s back again with a free release of a track he’s been blasting in most of his lives sets; his remix of Travis Scott’s ‘Goosebumps’ featuring Kendrick Lamar.

Damn this remix is good. NGHTMRE has produced some of the best trap mixes we’ve heard and this latest is no exception. The tune features the haunting vocals that make this one a crowd favorite but then cranks it up with ridiculous drops that makes walls shake and well…gives you goosebumps. Expect to hear this one throughout the summer, as NGHTMRE blazes the trail for the trap game. Lucky for us, it’s now available all the time for streaming or download. Check it out below!

On Planets Releases Newest Single, “Too Bad / So Sad”

We’ve been covering On Planets for a while now, and not for lack of reason. On Planets has a uniquely defining quality that’s difficult to replicate or even achieve in such an oversaturated market. At the same time, it’s something impossible to pinpoint, so you can begin to see the allure.

With his latest track “Too Bad / So Sad,” he’s really hit a new high. Beginning with an incredibly understated and unimposing intro, building into a similarly anti-climactic first drop sequence, and then building bombastically into the meat of the track, it takes a natural progression of sound to another level. Combining his own vocals with his own production gives him universal control over the rhythm and vibe he’s putting out, leading to a completely personal and uniquely identifying song.

“This one is a bit of a hyperbolic depiction of doubt, mostly in the context of lifestyle, career, etc. At the time I was writing the track, I had some doubt in my own integrity and worth, so I wanted to embody that melodramatic, ridiculous shit I came up with in my head. ‘Too Bad / So Sad’ is just about how easy it is to marinate yourself in bad vibes.” – On Planets

On Planets is undoubtedly one of our favorite artists to follow right now, and he should be for you, too. Listen to “Too Bad / So Sad” below and grab it here if you like it.

Unlike Pluto – Everything Black feat. Mike Taylor [Monstercat]

Throughout the last year, Unlike Pluto has proved himself  over and over again to be one of the biggest talents in this generation of electronic music. Following his Monstercat debut “Waiting for You,” the producer’s career exploded, with the Los Angeles native finding himself releasing hit after hit (including the Twenty One Pilots-inspired “Worst in Me,” which gained over 4 million streams on Trap Nation).

With an electroNOW feature and a North American tour just in sight, it appears Unlike Pluto might have another hit on his hands. “Everything Black” is among Unlike Pluto’s most experimental works to date, combining elements of jazz, funk, R&B and soul into one 4-minute electropop spectacular, featuring the astounding vocals of Mike Taylor.

Ironically, “Everything Black” was the first song I ever heard from Unlike Pluto. It amazes me how over a year later, everyone at Monstercat HQ is still just as stoked to release this song as they were back then. To me, that really says something about just how massive this song is.

Listen to “Everything Black” before it hits the radio and buy the track below:

Bryce Fox – Horns (Danny Olson Remix) [Free Download]

I’ve already stated in over a dozen other reviews that I absolutely love horns in dance music. From Alexander Lewis to Brasstracks to that one ID from Odesza (you know the one), natural horns add an incredible element to dance music.

Now, I’m actually digressing a little bit because there aren’t any actual horns in the song “Horns” by Bryce Fox, but I love this remix by Danny Olson all the same. The vocals are for sure a focal point of the song, and Bryce Fox has that effortless voice that can carry a tune on its own, but the original rock track is completely transformed with Danny Olson’s production. In fact, some of the orchestral twists placed on the remix are far and above one of my favorite aspects.

Producers can definitely take notes from Danny Olson on how to craft a remix that both accompanies and augments the original – this is a masterpiece. Check it out below:

Okeechobee Music Festival Arrests Down, but Pounds of Drugs Still Confiscated

OKEECHOBEE – Arrests at Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival are down from last year — 21 total over the weekend, compared to 65 last year.

Along with those numbers, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office, released a list of confiscated drugs and related paraphernalia.

6 pounds hydroponic marijuana
2 pounds of edible marijuana goods, such as cookies and brownies
200 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes
150 hits of LSD
100 hits of Ecstasy
57 nitrous oxide whippets
50 capsules of Molly
30 LSD dip cigarettes
25 marijuana candies like gummy bears
14 g of cocaine HCl
12 g of meth
10 g of liquid LSD
10 g of powder mollies
Five sets of digital scales
1 1/2 ounce mushrooms
1 ounce of marijuana resin
Various prescription medication such as Xanax and oxycodone

Amnesty boxes made available near festival grounds likely helped many people avoid drug-related charges.

Sheriff Noel Stephen addressed these arrests Friday: “We welcome anyone that travels to Okeechobee for the music fest and encourage them to enjoy the festival. However, we will do all we can to eliminate as many drugs coming into Okeechobee County. With the help of assisting agencies, the weekend searches resulted in a large amount of narcotics taken off the streets.”

The county sheriff’s office also released a statement on Facebook this morning:

Paris Club Concrete Gets 24-Hour License

concrete

If raving is in your blood, then the ultimate party is always a 24-hour party. These are rare in America unfortunately due to lame anti-party laws, especially in the state of California where there are more unnecessary rules and regulations than anywhere else in the world. It’s a different story for Europeans though, which is where a club has been granted an extended license.

One of the biggest clubs in Paris, FranceConcrete, has just been granted a license to stay open 24 hours. Starting on March 10th, it can stay open “as long as the public can dance”. Before that, it could only remain open until 7 a.m. on weekends, but new legislation has been written by local authorities. To celebrate, the club is throwing a 28-hour party. With the USA becoming business friendly again, it should take note of how Concrete is doing things to possibly stimulate the nightlife industry across the country.

New Track – MEDZ feat. Kings – Unforgettable

Two of New Zealand’s most exciting, burgeoning talents have collaborated on a new track that lives up to it’s name, ‘Unforgettable’. MEDZ (which consists of Dick Johnson and Jack Millar) has dropped another future bass classic, with vocal support from KINGS, who raps the verses and sings the hook. KINGS had the honor of winning “Best Breakthrough Artist Of The Year” at the 2016 New Zealand Music Awards, so it’s safe to say that we should be hearing more from in the the future, even over on the US side of the Pacific.

Check out “Unforgettable” below:
