XYLØ Performs “Setting Fires” In Haunting Acoustic Rendition

“Setting Fires” is just the latest in a long string of hit songs from The Chainsmokers, but it’s quickly become one of our favorites. This is in no small part to the vocal performance from brother-sister duo XYLØ. As the song continues to rack up plays on Spotify, currently sitting at a cool 30 million, XYLØ has shared this haunting acoustic performance of the hit song.

Without the future bass and synth flourishes, we’re treated to a raw and emotional vocal performance that completely redefines the sound of the track.

Calvin Harris Nominated For Artist Of The Year At BBC Music Awards

The BBC Music Awards are back again next Monday. This year, there will be some huge acts taking the stage and some even bigger nominations. One of the nominations we’re most excited about is Calvin Harris, up for Artist Of The Year. He has some tough competition, however, going against Adele, the late David Bowie, Coldplay, and Jess Glynne.

The awards show will take place on December 12th at ExCel London where the best of the best from the past year will be showcased. There are only three categories at the BBC Music Awards: Artist of the Year, Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year, and Radio 2’s Album of the Year.

Zara Larsson, John Legend, Robbie Williams, and many others will take the stage that night to perform as well. Check back with us to see if Calvin will take the cake!

BASECAMP – In Stone (VALENTINE Remix)

Transforming tracks with remixes is not an easy task. I’ve said this before it’s worth repeating, especially when talking about this VALENTINE remix of BASECAMP‘s “In Stone.” The original tune is cooled down, laid back, with very ethereal environments. Valentine takes all those feelings and emotions and pushes them to their limits, creating a high energy, grunge-y electronic track. I was really excited after hearing this track for the first time as I feel it’s a refreshingly unique style.

The track begins with the original lyrics, setting a mood similar to the original track with swelling strings beneath the vocals. Percussive elements are introduced alongside blips. Unlike many tracks heard these days, there’s no build, not artificial hype to get you ready for “the drop.” Instead, VALENTINE focuses more on making the track cohesive, introducing the chorus with heavy hitting kicks and a hallowed out synth naturally as the next progression in the track. He makes the track feel as natural and as human as one can with electronic music which gives the track its refreshing sound. Check out the track below to get a feel for what VALENTINE is all about, and watch out for more from him in 2017:

Death Toll In Oakland Rises To 36, Criminal Investigation Launched

Since yesterday when the death toll in Oakland was raised from 9 to 24, it has once again risen to 36. “We have located and recovered 36 victims,” said Alameda County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deputy Tya Modste. “Of the 36, 11 have been positively identified and their family members have been appropriately identified,” she said.

Recovery and discovery efforts were halted late Sunday night as investigators were believed to have found the portion of the building where the fire originated. The area will be searched Monday morning to locate the cause. Last night at a press conference, Libby Schaaf, Mayor of Oakland, said that the Alameda County District Attorney has started an official investigation into the cause of the fire.

Approximately 70% of the area has been searched so far, and no cause has yet been found. However, according to former residents, the building had few exits, piles of wood and electrical cords and a makeshift staircase, making it a tinder box and fire waiting to happen.

Yesterday, the promoter of the party was lambasted on social media for an insensitive post, mourning the loss of his own property and leaving out those whose lives were lost. Of those who died in the inferno, one was Knife Party’s VJ, Jonathan Bernbaum.

“We hope that we’ll be back in the building between 12 o’clock and two o’clock today to continue the recovery effort,”said Oakland Fire Department spokesperson Chief Teresa DeLoach Reed.

Donations for victim relief funds have already passed $200,000. Donate here.

Pasquale Rotella Announces Cancellation Of EDC NY 2017 In Facebook Post

In 2012, EDC expanded to New York for the first time. Throughout the years, EDC New York has faced its own share of difficulties as it continued to give headliners the most exquisite experience they could muster. Unfortunately, according to a since-deleted Facebook post from Pasquale Rotella, co-founder and CEO of Insomniac Events, EDC New York will not be going down in 2017.

The statement read, “Although EDC New York 2016 was one of my favorites hosted in the Big Apple, we’ve decided to take a break in 2017. We hope many of you East Coast Headliners will join us in Vegas. We’ll have an Art Car sound system paying homage to New York DJs past and present. As I write this, I’ve gotta mention all the hard work and creativity that is going into the completely reimagined kineticFIELD, as well as an entirely new ADDITIONAL stage. The team and I are energized about an epic EDC Las Vegas 2017!”

While it’s obviously a shame that EDC won’t be happening in New York for the first time in five years, we can’t help but feel energized by the news of a new stage at EDC Las Vegas in 2017. With hard style, bass, house and techno, main stage, and eclectic styles already covered, perhaps the new stage will be an exclusive Dreamstate area for trance? We’ll have to wait and see.

As for the New Yorkers, better start saving up for those flights to Vegas.

This week we received another belter from Canadian bass music label Kannibalen Records, this time from young guns La Musique D’Ordinateur, ZESKULLZ and Mikey Ceaser. “Ravemachine” is a super gritty hybrid rap banger that starts off proper with a fire verse from Mikey Ceasar which eventually leads up to an equally hot drop full of mind melting synths, heavy percussion and clever vocal samples. This is the perfect song to get crunk to this weekend, “sorry if we blew out your speakers” in advance! Peep and download below.

Porter Robinson x Madeon – Shelter (Mat Zo Remix)

A few months ago, Porter Robinson and Madeon unveiled their huge new collaboration, “Shelter” which they named for their tour together. “Shelter” has become a massive hit since it has been released, and as a song gains popularity, it also gets a lot of remixes made of it. Mat Zo was chosen to be on remix duty for this track, and he certainly delivered a great variation of the original.

Keeping the vibe and melodies of the original intact, Mat Zo added his signature touch to spin it into his own. The first drop is more chill and low energy, but coming up to the second drop, its got a more exciting and danceable feel to it. He hit the nail on the head with this remix and we look forward to hearing this in the festival circuit.

Adventure Club – Red//Blue

The rise of EDM over the last few years can only be described as meteoric. DJs and producers that were literally mixing in their bedrooms just a few years ago are now playing massive stages for thousands of fans at a time. Regardless of your favorite type of dance music (trance, dubstep, hardstyle, etc.), there are a few names that are insanely reliable to deliver amazingly recognizable tracks. One of those names is Adventure Club. The duo of Leighton James and Christian Srigley became recognizable with their melodic dubstep that resonated with fans globally.

Well the duo has just released their much-anticipated album, Red//Blue and it’s everything we could possibly want. Adventure Club enthusiasts will love the classic melodic tracks like “Dreams”, “Limitless” featuring Delaney Jane, and “Fade” (personal favorite). While new fans will love those tracks too, AC also provides some variety with tracks like “Reaction” featuring Leah Culver and “Crash 2.0″; a refreshed take on one of their all-time classic hits.

Listening to this album is exciting and it’s even more thrilling to see this duo succeed. These two guys are grounded and just all around good guys. Be sure to support this album on iTunes or pick out your favorite tracks from the stream below!

Gryffin & Bipolar Sunshine – Whole Heart
(Young Bombs Remix)

Gryffin and Bipolar Sunshine teamed up back in August to release their debut collaborative original “Whole Heart”. An evolution for both artists, the track has been a favorite for many and the duo has now commissioned Canada’s Young Bombs to take a stab at flipping it. The remix utilizes similar elements to the original with guitar, chimes and euphoric synths but in a new a refreshed way. Young Bombs was recently featured in the third edition of our yearly ’13 Canadian Producers You Need To Familiarize Yourself With’ article and this offering just reinforces their inclusion. Listen to the remix below on Spotify.
