Snoop Dogg Features On New EDM Song That Sounds A LOT Like “Cold Water”

Inb4 Major Lazer and Justin Bieber file a huge lawsuit over this.

We just happened across this new track, “Blow,” by one Jacky Greco. Featuring Snoop DoggArlissa and Jakkcity, the song almost identically copies “Cold Water” in the instrumentation, slightly varied melody and rhythm – especially in the “drop” section. While this wouldn’t typically be unusual for a collection of small and unknown artists perfecting their craft, the Snoop Dogg feature here immediately turns this likely copyright infringement into a major issue, especially since the track is being sold and marketed heavily with 200,000 plays on YouTube already.

Some might argue the track was legitimately sampled for this release, however, the fact that it has been released on an independent label, Kontor Records, with no ties to Mad Decent leads us to believe otherwise.

We have reached out to the artist in question regarding this affair, but we’ll let you decide for yourself. Is “Blow” a rip off of “Cold Water?” Compare the two below; though “Blow” is at a faster pace, you can hear the similarities most clearly at :56 compared to :46 into “Cold Water.”

Smirnoff Sound Collective Presents Tribes Documentary Ep. 3: Dirtybird

Dirtybird, The Claude VonStroke-owned record label turned cultural melting pot, hosted its second annual Campout festival last weekend at Silverado, California’s beautiful Oak Canyon Park. Featuring a lineup jam-packed with many of the most prolific musicians and creators in the underground realms, the event expertly combined the large scale thrill of a classic festival with the intimate, personal touch of a community more closely bonded than most in the electronic music circuit.

In honor of the event, and to celebrate the label’s inspiring progression to its current standing, VonStroke and the team linked up with Smirnoff Sound Collective in pursuit of an all-encompassing “Tribes” documentary that explores each of its core members and the story behind the movement at large. Coming as the third installment in the “Tribes” series, the 14-minute piece mixes in old and new footage from the collective’s founding members and most noteworthy contributors. From interviews with VonStroke, his wife and COO/CMO of the label Aundy Crenshaw and the famous grill master Grill$on to clips from Dirtybird’s earliest days and events, the history of the label is laid out from start to finish for the very first time.

In an interview the following weekend, VonStroke said that while the scope and scale of Dirtybird have drastically increased over its 13 years, the underlying goals and milestones that began the initial movement remain relatively the same.

“I think it’s very similar. Stay lean, create our own fan base outside of ‘the system,’ stay original and have as much fun as possible.  The only real difference is the large scope of the campout and the addition of clothing to the product line.”

As far as maintaining the rich community that supports the label, VonStroke said that the key to a genuine relationship with fans is to simply connect on a personal and unfiltered level. This is why, he said, the Campout includes many games and activities that both he and the rest of the team participates in throughout the weekend.

“The artists are in the general public most of the time. Personally I play all the games and I know a lot of others do too. We have comedy shows, talent shows – and tons of participation from both fans and artists. It’s not just about music it’s about community and fun above all else.”

The connection with Smirnoff Sound Collective, known globally for its commitment to highlighting the most forward-thinking movement in electronic music, came as the perfect fit to tell the Dirtybird story, VonStroke said. Much like his relationship with the label’s fanbase, the partnership with Smirnoff Sound Collective came about due to his gut feeling and personal connection with the people involved.

“Smirnoff was interested in showing the family side of our brand and that story hadn’t really been told yet very well. I liked the idea and I liked the guys running the project. It felt good in my gut so we did it. That’s usually how most things happen we just say- are these good people? And do we like the project? “

Watch the complete “Tribes” episode below, and join us in paying tribute to one of the most legendary and innovative movements in the scene.

Martin Garrix Releases Progressive Masterpiece “Sun Is Never Going Down”

Martin Garrix‘s week is in full swing, ladies and gentleman. Today, the Dutch wunderkind released his second track out of seven titled, “Sun Is Never Going Down” featuring vocalist and producer Dawn Golden.

“Sun Is Never Going Down” is something I have personally been waiting for Martin to reign his efforts back in on. As of late, Martin Garrix has been dabbling himself into all sorts of fun and exciting new things, like a future bass-pop crossover hit with Bebe Rexha, “In The Name Of Love,” and electronic hip hop tracks like “Girls” or Spaceships” via his Area21 alias with rapper, Maejor.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with extending your reach and musical path across a bunch of different subgenres, but I think we can all agree progressive house Martin is one of our favorites, as it did give rise to one of his magnum opuses, “Forbidden Voices.”

Martin’s latest track “Sun Is Never Going Down” includes all the progressive house stylistic hallmarks the Dutch producer solidified his career on. The track gives you a conquering sense of ‘you can do anything in the the world.’ It’s euphoric, danceable and the stellar vocals from Dawn Golden make it all the better.

Listen to and watch The Lost Object‘s interpretation of the song below!

Martin is most certainly trying to stamp his name into the minds dance music fans worldwide during Amsterdam Dance Event by releasing 7 tracks across 7 days on his imprint label STMPD RCRDS. Be sure to stay connected with Your EDM for the latest updates on everything during Martin Garrix week!

Major Lazer & DJ Snake Ft. MØ – Lean On (Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Remix)

Lean On

Major Lazer & DJ Snake Ft. MØ – Lean On (Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Remix)

Today four-time platinum certified “Lean On” gets a new remix from the Belgian brothers, Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios, better known as DJ Mag’s #1 DJ’s, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

The song starts off much like the song you know and love, in fact the first minute is almost entirely the same. It isn’t until about five measures into the original drop that we start to hear the beginnings of some DV&LM influence. The transition into the remixed portion is one of the most gradual moves I’ve ever heard in a remix.

The build up to the drop isn’t crazy long, which is very refreshing especially for Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. The song builds up to a high energy drop with the deep kicks DV&LM are known for and this “whoop” noise that I’ve never even heard used in a house track before.

By far though, the best thing about this track is that is A FREE DOWNLOAD. Get your copy below, and take a listen to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s remix of the iconic “Lean On.

Maty Noyes Raises Voice Amidst Kygo Hollywood Bowl Fiasco

Maty Noyes

Drama struck Kygo and his team ahead of his landmark Hollywood Bowl performance yesterday (and today’s doubleheader), as collaborator and singer songwriter Maty Noyes was abandoned and shunned from the evening; manager Myles Shear and co allegedly denied Noyes her performance for missing a single show previously during the tour due to illness. Noyes has been on Kygo’s worldwide tour, performing their track “Stay” for free, and was unable to justify silence as she was relieved of duty for what would be a milestone show for the young talent.

“…it’s sad to think I can’t even sing the song that I WROTE & has over 330 million plays.”

Noyes took to social media, namely Instagram, to voice her frustration, disappointment, and disgust with the situation and the treatment of women in the industry, stating: “I’m sick of dealing with these sexist pigs in the industry. Im standing up for myself,” and “It’s time to move on from doing favors for [Kygo] and focus on myself.” Her post brings into question both broad scale issues plaguing women working in the music and draws attention to Myles Shear’s managerial practices, and Kygo’s apparent ambivalence to the artist(s) he’s worked with. The Hollywood Bowl show last night went down as a grand success, as will this evening’s, but their successes are numbed by this unfortunate event and dull what should have been a shining memory for all.

When you write a song, travel the world to perform for an entire year for free, and then get treated like a complete piece of 💩 because you get sick and miss one show. Now I’m told that I can’t do the Hollywood bowl for all my people in LA. I am being punished to being sick. “put on a pretty dress, lipstick, open your mouth and sing. We don’t need your voice in the show, we only deal with the best.” – @managermyles is this really how you treat people that you call one big family? I’m sick of dealing with these sexist pigs in the industry. Im standing up for myself. #standup with me. 👊🏼 it’s sad to think I can’t even sing the song that I WROTE & has over 330 million plays. whoever goes to the show tonight know that I’m there in spirit & I should have been the one singing to you guys. It’s time to move on from doing favors for @kygomusic and focus on myself. #hollywoodbowl #letmatystay #kygo #STANDUP im a 19 year old woman in this industry you will NOT treat me like this 📸 @ecclesinephoto #flowerpower #girlpower

No All-Night Liquor License Granted to New York City for New Years

New York City
The Big Apple, which is infamously known for their all night extravaganzas, will not be taking part in the years’ biggest one due to New York state’s liquor laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol on Sundays, commonly known as Blue Laws.

In recent years, the number of venues the New York State Liquor Authority has authorized has dwindled down. Last New Years’ Eve, there were 249. The year before, 305 with 2009, only 165 permits were issued. Seemingly, before 2009, 388(2008) and 439(2007), maybe legislation was involved in diminishing the overall number of all-night activities.

This NYE, the State Liquor Authority will not be granting 24-hour liquor licenses to ANYONE. Pretty big deal. Good luck venue owners.

— Dance Bitch LLC (@DanceBitchBK) October 12, 2016

All-night liquor permits, sometimes known as New Year’s Eve permit, allow clubs, bars and establishments to sell alcohol past last call (4 AM in New York City) until 8 AM on New Year’s Eve. Even tho last month, governor Andrew Cuomo of said state, revised the 80-year-old law, essentially bringing the old one up-to-date, allowing sales beginning at 10a Sunday morning, the modernized law still can’t buckle on sales before then.

SFX Rejects Ask for $15.8 Million in Reimbursement Costs From Former CEO

court

The downfall of SFX Entertainment continues, and even after former CEO Robert Sillerman has exited, it seems like their problems are still not over.

Sillerman is requesting that SFX pay him roughly $15.8 million for reimbursements of legal costs he acquired and several acquisitions he made for SFX, including the purchase of React Presents, a Chicago EDM promoter. The company, however, is rejecting both requests.

In a court filing, attorney Colin Robertson explains that the former CEO “seeks reimbursement for potential losses Sillerman might incur as a result of his guaranties of the primary obligations of certain of the Debtors.”

Sillerman had millions invested in SFX from buying numerous companies like ID&T and Beatport, but stock prices for the asset have plummeted and the company ultimately filed for Chapter Eleven bankruptcy in early 2016 when Sillerman left. Since SFX is not accepting his requests, there’s a high probability that there will be even more legal battles to come in the near future.

Limitless – When I Was Yours

Limitless

Limitless – When I Was Yours

Icon Collective student Limitless has a well-polished electronic sound that caught Uprise Music‘s attention early on. The producer has been uploading his catalog to SoundCloud a little over 6 months now, showcasing his growth as an artist. Luckily for us, he’s just as good picking featured vocalists/songwriters as he is as laying down the canvas for them to sing on.

His new single out now on Lush Records “When I Was Yours” picks up where “Castles” left off, combining silky vocals with futuristic, head-nodding production and hooks that are designed to echo in your head for days. It’s safe to say Limitless is now an artist to keep an eye out for if your into Indie electronic music. Be sure to give it a spin and vibe out.
