Party Favor Partied & Destroyed Everything In Promotion Of His Latest EP

Party Favor’s latest EP, Party & Destroy, was a raucous collection of music that we’re still bumping weeks later. The best part about the EP though is its namesake, and Party Favor’s ability to really put all of that into action.

Party Favor & his team took the spirit of the EP and created a release party that exceeded expectations. In one room was a raging party with guest sets from YDG, Jauz, and of course Party Favor himself. In the room next door, his team had set up a rage room – a place for you to just go ape wild and break shit. Valentino Khan, Brillz, Carter Cruise and even I took turns breaking TVs, chairs, wine bottles and more – it was a lot of fun.

That was only the release party though! Party Favor has also announced a full tour to go along with the album and you’re definitely not going to want to miss it if it rolls through your town.

Tickets will be on sale at -> PartyAndDestroy.com

If you’re looking the crème de la crème of Party Favor shows, you’re going to want to pay attention to the Los Angeles date at the El Rey on October 8. We hear there are going to be a bunch of special guests. *wink*

Tickets for that show are on sale here.

The Obamas Set To Host 1-Day Music Festival At The White House

The Obamas each attended and spoke during this year’s annual SXSW festival and conference series in March, making President Obama the very first sitting president to do so in history. Due to the talks’ wide success and influence, the White House has now decided to team up with SXSW to host their own scaled-down version of the event in the nation’s capital.

The one-day event will be called South By South Lawn, and will be held on the White House grounds themselves on October 3. According to the White House website, “Musical performances will include well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences.” From now until September 10, the website will also be accepting online nominations for the performing acts to attend.

The below bullet points are taken from the official website.

  • INTERACTIVE: Panel discussions throughout the day will explore topics like how to make change stick with organizers who are having an impact, as well as a discussion with influencers who are using their platforms to bring about positive change. Interactive booths will encourage attendees to engage with and learn about new technologies and innovations.
  • FILM: The film portion features the 3rd Annual White House Student Film Festival in association with its founding partner, the American Film Institute. Students in grades K-12 submitted more than 700 short films round this year’s theme, The World I Want to Live In. The submissions are inspiring and we’re excited to share official selections and honor young filmmakers as part of this event.
  • MUSIC: Musical performances will include well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences.

Gear up for a one-of-a-kind event later in the fall, and revisit the President’s SXSW speech below.

Wakaan’s ‘Meanwhile’ Compilation is Out of this World [Free Download]

And when we say out of this world, we truly mean it. The collection of tunes that makes up the Meanwhile album were all hand-selected by none other than the reverend of wonk himself: Space Jesus.

Unsurprisingly, the whole release is quality of the highest standard. Dark, heavy, and experimental, Meanwhile is the epitome of what the Wakaan label hopes to curate and spread to the masses. The album features 17 all-original tracks from some of bass music’s finest, representing both the United States and lands beyond our borders. Artists the likes of Bleep Bloop, Shlump, Conrank, Yheti, Mr. Bill, Proko and many more all lent their talents the album, locking it in as one of the imprint’s best offerings yet; even the elusive boss-man, Liquid Stranger, makes an appearance. It’s a straight up smorgasbord of next-level sound design, an eclectic fusion of just about every low-end fueled sub-genre you care to name. Trap, dubstep, grime, drum & bass; it’s all here, often overlapping in the most glorious of ways. And given that fact, we highly recommend turning up your sub for maximum enjoyment.

Best of all, Wakaan and Space Jesus have made the entire Meanwhile compilation available for the low, low price of free. You can stream it in full after the jump as well, so be sure to grab a copy of your own via Hive if you’re feeling the vibes!

EDMTunes Icebreakers #7: What Is Your Favorite Label/Collective?

For many of our writers, joining the EDMTunes family has been a life-changing experience. Even though we all love our job, that doesn’t mean there aren’t aspects of it that sometimes get under our skin. One of the biggest issues is that we don’t often get the chance to voice our true opinions, which is why we have come up with a new series called ‘EDMTunes Icebreakers’.

When writing about song releases or news stories, we often remain objective in order to leave our biases out of the articles. That being said, we wanted to give our writers a chance to speak their minds as well as give our readers a chance to get to know us better. Every other week, our editors will ask our writers a question and they will answer with a few sentences. A handful of these responses will then be compiled into an article for you to read and react to. We hope the ‘EDMTunes Icebreakers’ series gives you a glimpse into our personal music preferences and helps bridge the gap between reader and writer.

This edition’s question is: What is your favorite label/collective?

Ryan Harcourt – Monstercat

We are all fans of the big-name producers and DJs in dance music. But is there any better feeling when you play a song for your friends from somebody they haven’t heard of and they love it? That’s Monstercat. Just 5 years into existence, Monstercat has a knack for putting out releases from some of the fastest-rising producers today including Marshmello, Unlike Pluto, Slushii and San Holo. On top of that, they diversify by hosting weekly podcasts and event partnerships. You’ve definitely heard the music they’ve released, but you might be unfamiliar with the label, because they’re reshaping the industry to ensure the focus is around the artist, as it should be! Everybody already loves an underdog and Monstercat is giving us a very good reason why we should.

Scott Lombardo – Anjunabeats

Anjunabeats, led by Above & Beyond, inspires one of the most passionate fanbases in dance music for very good reason. The label is focused on positive human interaction and emotion in the unforgettable moments of life. While some argue the label has shifted away from pure trance, the label has stayed true to its emotion-centered music as it has grown. The releases on Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep are always quality and the brand itself is of the highest order. It is one of the most recognizable brands in dance music, from the simple yet captivating artwork to the simple messages A&B put on the screen during their performances. Anjunabeats is all about that special “little something” and it has captured it to a T.

Nick Benner – Dirtybird

There are countless dance music labels pumping out excellent tracks these days, but I don’t think anyone is having more fun doing it than the Dirtybird team. Since being formed by Barclay Crenshaw (aka Claude VonStroke) back in 2005, the San Francisco based label has helped launch the careers of Justin Martin, Eats Everything, Shiba San, Catz ‘n Dogz, Kill Frenzy and more. Dirtybird is known for pumping out some of the weirdest, awesomest house and techno in the game as well as throwing some super creative events. If you find yourself digging the compilation below, be sure to pig out at one of the Dirtybird BBQs or dance under the stars at the Dirtybird Campout.

Michelle Chu – Film Noir Sound

Record label Film Noir Sound was founded by upcoming producers Krs., Oshi, and BNJMN and is a treasure trove of darker, moodier tracks that rides the line between electronic and other musical genres. Challenging the sonic stigma of aggressive and hard electronic music, the three talents take a more ‘low and slow’ approach to production and curation, leading to many avant-gard sounds that adorn my headphones everyday. A nascent, yet highly focused label, Film Noir Sound is part of a rapidly growing ecosystem of smaller labels and collectives developing and experimenting with the next wave of electronic sound.

Torie Richardson – Desert Hearts

Desert Hearts. Love the feel-good tech house and family vibes their crew always brings. Mikey Lion, Marbs, Porkchop, Lee Reynolds and the whole group always bring out the best sets and throw the most amazing events. My personal favorite set from DH is Mikey Lion’s “How to Love”.

Damon Stone – OWSLA

Skrillex’s OWSLA is not just a label, it’s a culture. There’s really no other kind of label out there that can announce an event that morning and have a line of loyal fans in OWSLA get-up spanning 3 to 4 blocks that night. Their constant interaction with fans, aside from consistently releasing music and playing festivals, is what gives the label its staying power (be it a pop-up shop, film premiere, personal sets with various producers). They also having bragging rights over jump-starting and building major careers including Skrillex himself, Porter Robinson, Zedd, Kill The Noise, Getter, Valentino Khan, What So Not and so much more!

Will Vance – Suara

If you keep your ear to the pulse of more experimental house music, it is hard to deny that Suara is a leading player. Every release is packed with unique sounds, subtle textures and floor-filling grooves. All this, coupled with their unending affection for all four-legged felines, makes Suara one of my most-watched labels.

What do you think about our answers? Let us know what your favorite label or collective is in the comments!

Axwell / Ingrosso Ditch New Manager, Return to Amy Thomson

Well here’s some unexpected news. Hot on the heels of Avicii’s final live performance, his manager’s (Ash Pournari) newest big talents are jumping ship to return to the team that made them famous. It was a little less than a year ago, that 2/3 of Swedish House Mafia made big news by breaking ties with their longtime manager, Amy Thomson. Amy is largely credited as being instrumental in the rise of Swedish House Mafia and has nurtured the career of Alesso as well. The two made the hard decision to leave Amy Thomson for Avicii’s management team at PRMD under Ash Pournari.

Since that time, many have noted a shift in the musical style of Axwell /\ Ingrosso‘s offerings to fit with the trendy future house pop music vibe that Avicii had so fully embraced, while releasing the original versions as remodes or Rrmixes. While this might not be related to the new management, many believed it was. Now, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso have silently decided to return to the formula that made them a global phenomenon.

Liverpool. Nov 26. /\ pre-sale today at 10, on sale tomorrow 10am BST 💥💥💥 @axwell @ingrosso Link in bio ☝🏻

A video posted by Amy Thomson (@theamythomson) on

Amy Thomson is now back to posting Axwell /\ Ingrosso materials as of 12 hours ago, and she silently added both names back into her bio on Instagram. EDMTunes has reached out to Axwell /\ Ingrosso who have no comment at this time, but the actions speak for themselves. Why they decided to switch back is anybody’s guess, but we know the duo is in good hands with Amy. With Avicii retiring from touring and Axwell /\ Ingrosso back with their original team, PRMD will need to look elsewhere for headliner touring talent to lead their roster.

A-Trak & Tommy Trash – Lose My Mind (Mija Remix)

A-Trak & Tommy Trash - Lose My Mind (Mija Remix)

A-Trak & Tommy Trash – Lose My Mind (Mija Remix)

Mija’s unique blend of music, taking bits of grime to house to electro to even hip hop, have quickly made her a niche power player in L.A’s fiercely competitive scene. After garnering support from some of the biggest acts in the industry at a very early stage in her career, Mija quickly gained the confidence to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants.

This can be no more apparent than in her latest release, which is a remix from the likes of A-Trak and Tommy Trash’s ‘Lose My Mind’. This girl’s heavy hitting and grizzly bass lines kick off from the start, and rarely cease to slow down as the rest of the synths work their way to the front. Intricate vocal chops weave their way against a light arpeggiator that helps pick up the already heightened energy.

Check out the tune below, and you’ll be sure to see why nobody has been able to take the name Mija out of their mouths this summer.

Shambhala Exceeds Expectations With Its Astounding 19th Year In Production

Shambhala

The inspiration behind the name of one of Canada’s premier electronic music festivals, the ancient word Shambhala”, is a Sanskrit term simply interpreted as “place of peace”. Cited in many ancient Eastern religious texts, “Shambhala” is often described as a legendary kingdom or a mythical paradise where only the pure of heart can live; a place whose reality is as visionary and spiritual as it is physical or geographic; a place where love and wisdom reign supreme. Beyond its ancient roots, “Shambhala” can also be defined as a lifestyle philosophy, one that encourages those from all walks of life to explore their own minds and to transform experiences in ways that awaken and cultivate an enlightened outlook. Adopting and applying these ideas, Shambhala Music Festival has materialized in the form of a thunderous, weekend-long experience that radiates visionary, spiritual and extra-dimensional aspects through music, art, sustainability, wellness and sense of community in its purest forms. Heeding inspiration from the origins of its name upon approaching its 2016’s gathering, Shambhala Music Festival only continued to commendably portray the roots of its namesake with this year’s 19th installment, which took place from August 5th through the 8th on the Bundschuh family’s farm in Salmo, British Columbia.

Shambhala

Since its humble inception in 1996 on the Bundschuh family’s farm, Shambhala Music Festival has flourished into a larger-than-life gathering, boasting six jaw-dropping stages, over three hundred musical acts, a multitude of workshops, movement classes, art, yoga, and an irreplaceable personality. Encased within the Salmo River Ranch property (a breathtaking setting of tall mountains and forest greenery), the four-day-long Shambhala Music Festival delivered yet another year of top notch, extremely diverse musical performances lasting each night until sunrise, along with one-of-a kind artistic expressions and a heap of life-changing memories with friends, both old and new. While hosting a carefully curated lineup overflowing with legendary acts like Andy C, Caspa, Rusko, Cut Chemist, Nightmares On Wax, and Questlove, as well as newer pack leaders and groundbreaking acts like Beats Antique, Excision, Opiuo, Justin Martin, Liquid Stranger, Truth, The Widdler, Shades, Snails and What So Not, Shambhala especially excelled this year in catering to an eclectic and eager crowd of music lovers spanning all styles and genres. One year before reaching its highly anticipated 20 year anniversary mark, 2016’s installment of the globally esteemed musical gathering served as proof to the festival world that this uniquely intimate, yet monumental showcase of self expression and human connection is a priceless paradise for those in search of broadening their creative horizons and enriching themselves through the healing properties of music.

Shambhala

With its 19th year in production just barely sinking below the horizon, Shambhala Music Festival has proven yet again its unwavering staying power as one of the most influential and thoughtful annual celebrations in today’s electronic music circuit. To secure your part in Shambhala’s roaring 20 year anniversary celebration, taking place next year from August 11th through the 14th, be sure to purchase tickets on sale Thursday, September 1st, 2016, 12 p.m. PST at shambhalamusicfestival.com!
