Lane 8 Fall 2016 Mixtape

Lane 8 Fall 2016 Mixtape

Here at EDMTunes, we only cover a few released mixtapes a year for good reason. Those consist of Goldroom and a few others whose seasonal mixes always tally high marks on Soundcloud and HypeM. As Lane 8’s stock continues to rise (no pun intended) since the release of his debut album Rise on Anjunadeep last summer, his mixtapes, sets and productions have taken a darker twist from the brighter, more upbeat productions he built his career blocks on.

Starting things off with a cheeky mashup between a DJ Koze remix of Mano Le Tough mixed in with the acapella intro of Bloom by RÜFÜS, the mix just takes off from there featuring cuts from the likes of Michael Mayer, Guy Gerber, Booka Shade, Isaac Tichauer, a Lane 8 remix of Deadmau5’s “Strobe” and an ID from the mixtape man himself as well. Alright. Enough with the blabbering. Check the mix out for yourself. It will provide a relaxing accompaniment to your week as fall approaches and the leaves begin to change.

Lane 8 Fall 2016 Mixtape Tracklist:

Drum & Bass Duo The Prototypes Release Trippy Video With The Directors Of OK GO Music Videos

Venture for a moment inward deep within the capacities of your own individual dreamscape. You’re in a dungeon; better yet? A vault. An underground facility hinged with imagination. Where your fantasies run rampant with electricity fueled by one specific energy source. Can you guess what that source of power may be?

Unleashed at a vicious 174 beats per minute, Desperados Studios mastermind Bob Parlington (OK GO – The Writing’s On The Wall) has truly outdone himself.

They picked five traditional experiments with the elements and took them to a whole new level, subverting them— like setting the Chladni sand patterns on fire with the very sound that created them. Everything was built from scratch: the pyro plates, the Rubens tubes and air hockey table, and of course the speaker sphere: 98 speakers each one wired and connected to a stack of concert amplifiers, with 78,000 W of power coming out of the installation.”

Now that we’ve collectively established the sheer quality of the video itself, let’s move forward a bit to the extraordinary production value of the tune itself. Once again, through the signature sounds of one of drum and bass’s favorite duo’s The Prototypes the world is left in a unilateral shock. Heading to the club? Drop this tune. Having a beer with your mates? Drop this tune. In a fight with your girlfriend about why drum and bass takes up so much of your free time? Drop this tune so loud that she won’t be able to yell over your monitors blaring.

Heh, okay maybe not that last part, but you get the idea.

Make sure to purchase the tune and support it here: https://ukf.lnk.to/prototypestransmissionYo

Ultra Gives Back With Ultra Passport

Whether its your favorite festival or one you’ve never attended, Ultra Music Festival is a powerhouse in the dance music community, competing with names like EDC and HARD as one of the most known names in dance events. Making its roots in the Sunshine State back in 1999, the festival has only grown with rave reviews, magical experiences and performances that have made music history. On the wake of Pendulum’s reunion featuring the one and only Tom Morello at UMF 2016, and in the middle of their Asian expansion of the fest this year, Ultra has announced a great way to give back to their loyal fans.

Introducing the Ultra Passport, festival attendees are being rewarded for their patronage and hard earned money they choose to spend on the fest. Between premiere ticket access, access to special Ultra Passport offices, rewards for attending the fest overseas and more, this seems like a great way to repay loyal fans and show that the fest is ultimately about the experience and the audience. You can check out the full post about the Ultra Passport below, and if you find yourself on the Eastern side of the World don’t forget to check out one of Ultra’s Asia dates this Fall!

Find Out How Much Skrillex & Guns N’ Roses Made At Their Show

When Skrillex was announced as the support act for one of the shows on the Guns N’ Roses reunion tour, reception was lukewarm, to say the least.

While the crowd was decidedly mild through the entirety of Skrillex’ set – which he worked on for a full week on mind you – both artists probably won’t be too disturbed when Billboard‘s Boxscore revealed that that single show earned over $6 million dollars (gross sales).

The precise box-office payout came to $6,166,657, some of which will need to be divvied among managers, artists, etc. but it’s more than likely that they all recouped a fair bit more from merchandise sales.

Stream a clip of Skrillex’ set below and see how much the rest of the tour made on Boxscore here.

Calvin Harris Is Reportedly Done Making Albums, Will Only Release Singles

I have a lot of interest in the resurgence of albums in the electronic music world. These past three years especially have seen virtually everyone from STS9 to Empire Of The Sun to DJ Snake to Underworld release an album (actually, those four are just this year), and everyone seems to be asking their favorite artist “When is yours coming??”

And yet, according to some insider information, Calvin Harris will be eschewing the album route for the foreseeable future.

An insider says, “Calvin has always been a forward-thinker and believes just releasing singles is the way forward. Albums don’t sell how they used to and artists are now seeing streaming as the future. Albums are time-consuming and limit artists to cycles rather than having a persistent presence in the charts. Calvin is one of the most-streamed artists in the world so it would make sense to exploit that success.”

Calvin Harris became the first British performer to reach one billion streams on Spotify in 2014, so it’s clear that streaming is working for him. As of January 2015, his album Motion had sold 66,000 copies in the US. Meanwhile, all of the album tracks have been streamed for a total of more than 1 billion plays at this point. So maybe he’s onto something.

Still, I can’t help but mourn the loss of the album format. Celebmix says that Calvin’s choice could “change the music industry forever,” though I wouldn’t claim something so ridiculous. While his choice could change up some things, I can’t believe the album format will ever become completely obsolete.

Calvin’s next single, “My Way,” comes out Friday.

L D R U – Next To You feat. Savoi (No Way Back Remix)

Sydney based DJ/producer L D R U has been making some serious waves over the past couple of years. His single “Next To You” with SAVOI is still on heavy rotation around the globe on radio and club sets. A few days ago, he enlisted LA producer No Way Back for an official remix. NWB took the tune for a nice spin. If you have ever been to Miami, you know this is the kind of record, as you hear at every pool party and lounge.

NWB launched this new project by releasing some impressive cover remixes. Recently he dropped his collaborative single with Le Youth titled “Back2Life” and it has been doing incredibly well both online and on the radio. Have a listen to his material if you’re looking for some beautiful vibes.

KAI WACHI – $KULL TEAM EP

Kannibalen Records signee Kai Wachi has been crushing the game in 2016. With a major cosign from Kannibalen’s founders Black Tiger Sex Machine as an opening act on their headlining tour and working with hot artists such as LUMBERJVCK, he shows no signs of slowing down. His new EP $KULL TEAM further cements that this up-and-comer is here to stay.

From a club weapon such as “Damage”, which brings trap and dub elements together, to dark electro warehouse vibes on “RED” and a vocal driven record “Need You” alongside Anna Yvette, Wachi shows he has no fear in experimenting with several genres. You can take a listen to the EP in full below and officially add him to your SoundCloud radar.

Dillon Francis Appears on MTV’s Ridiculousness

Dillon Francis is no stranger to media outlets outside of the electronic music world. His love for comedy shows in his performances as well as YouTube clips that undoubtedly originate from pure boredom and entertainment. Fans that follow him on Snapchat know that his antics are incredibly well thought out and hilarious.

While his Twitter campaign to host SNL has not yet gained him the spot on the classic show, the comedian producer recently appeared on Rob Dyrdek‘s MTV talk show, Ridiculousness. The show is essentially a compilation of hilarious Internet videos that showcase the best of human idiocy. Keeping in track with that ideology, Francis explained to viewers of the show what his brand and slogan “IDGAFOS” means and how it originated. A portion of the show was dedicated to the IDGAFOS mentality that portrays random individuals acting without any regard to others. Catch a glimpse of the episode below and be sure to check out the full episode on MTV.
